He stands across the street, a cane in hand, teeing off an acorn. I wonder what must be in his mind. He hits it a foot away, then turns and stands still for a moment. Then with all the precision of the last time, he strikes at the acorn again. This time the hit tosses it several feet away.
Is it the lack of activity, or age, or no friends that keeps him working busily at his toil. I do not know. Once again the man enters my mind and I turn back to look at him trying not to let him know I am watching.
He strikes the ball again. Ahh. I said ball. Perhaps in his mind he recalls the past, and the acorn becomes a ball and the past memories live once more.
He is not unhappy. At least he seems not to be unhappy. An interesting character, this man.
His black wool cap firmly on his head, he reaches to wrap the scarf more tightly around his neck as the winter peeks with a preview of cold wind.
His pants are baggy and his coat worn thin. Once again he aims at the acorn.
This time he seems to be planning a precision shot. Just as he swings the cane a squirrel leaps from the tree and as quickly as he came – he left; but this time with the acorn in his possession.
The man looked surprised at first, and then he smiled. He now noticed me and said, “Man, I wish I could move that fast.” He turned and limped away.
I began to like this man I will probably never know. The memory of him will surely bring a smile to my face.

Actually, I have reams of stories. I have been writing since I was about 12 and just finished a couple of books (working on third:). I have some children’s stories and some photography books too – I love photography too! If you would like to see some of my projects, check out http://stores.lulu.com/mo4 and http://jett.net/mo.
I am not trying to “sell” to you (I am a terrible sales person) – but I believe in what I do or else I wouldn’t do it. Just thought you might see part of my heart…
I will REALLY look forward to seeing your work! Thanks so much for sharing with me, and I am sure it will be good. Your comments were written beautifully!
Have a wonderful day!
