EV – D68 ( Virus) : Children

October 7, 2014

Here is the latest update on EV-D68 (virus) It has now been recognized in forty-states. Please be sure to watch your children closely. The first signs mimic the common cold – (sometimes fever, runny nose, sneezing and coughing).

EV-D68 has many strains. In the fifties and sixties, it was the cause of cases of POLIO, though, it only recently has become a problem associated with serious respiratory conditions – particularly with those with asthma and those prone to breathing issues.

The virus mimics the common cold initially. The cough can be intense, and it can cause difficulty in breathing. Many children have neck or back pain or pain in the arms and legs (muscle and body aches). Listen to your children – they probably won’t read “what the symptoms are!”

As recent as within the last week, some cases are causing paralysis!!

If your child is sick – keep him or her at home! The virus passes from person to person, with a cough, sneezes or even touching surfaces. Sneezes travel at over 65 miles per hour.

The best defense is to have children WASH his or her hands vigorously several times a day. Not the kind of washing that water passes over, a dribble of soap, rinse and done!

Wash clear up to the wrists, and thoroughly. This virus is not restricted to the USA. It is MANY places in the world, so please care for these blessed little ones.

Show your children how you want them to wash. Show them how to cover their mouths, with bent elbow, when they cough. Be vigilant. One child has died in the United States. He was four years old.

God bless you and God bless all the children!

This virus is spreading quickly. If your child is sick – keep them home. Lots of good hand washing!

Really dangerous for those with asthma and/ or under 6.

Hits the lungs and child feels like lungs are closing – difficulty speaking, perhaps breathing. Begins like cold – sneezing, runny nose, and cough.

Virus stays alive on surfaces of things too.

Many in intensive care, so please be careful and watch your kids closely-particularly those with asthma or other breathing problems.

Authorities say if not in your state-it will be soon. I will be praying for all the children, and I hope you will too. These precious ones are in our care.

“At least 10 states — Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Georgia — have reported suspected outbreaks of human enterovirus 68 and requested CDC support.

“Viruses don’t tend to respect borders,” ABC News Chief Health and Medical Editor Dr. Richard Besser said. “It is only 10 states now, but it’s going to be across the country. So if your state doesn’t have it now, watch for it, it’s coming.”

“It can start just like a cold — runny nose, sneezing, coughs — but it’s the wheezing you have to watch out for,” Besser said.

At Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, Dr. Raju Meyappan, a pediatric critical care physician, said he’s seen at multiple children end up in the pediatric intensive care unit after being infected with the virus and that children under the age of 5 or those with asthma appear to be most at risk.”

Recalled Cheese / Mosquitoes

In case you haven’t heard, KRAFT SINGLES AMERICAN CHEESE (date 2/20, 2/21 2015) – is being recalled. I know this is something lots of kiddos like, so wanted to let you know ASAP.

Do you know what the biggest killer of man is each year? You are going to hate this (at least I do) – mosquitoes! 2.7 million deaths a year attributed to mosquito bites.

Please get out the “deet” or whatever you KNOW will keep them away, and protect the children and yourself!

Lastly for this short post – serious research has shown that employers do discriminate against people who have been unemployed long-term. They believe the talent and skills atrophy. If you are one of these people get that resume out, refresh it, and start hitting the pavement.

Among the long term unemployed there are higher numbers of depressed people, divorce rates are higher, and so are suicide rates!

Even if you have to take a position that is “less” than you have gotten in the past, just remember working is good for the Spirit, and any money earned is more honorable than money “taken” because of lack of effort.

God bless you and your loved ones. These are tough times around the world, and we need to love one another and practice peace (as best we can)!

Good information for your health!

June 3, 2014

Just a short post, but thought this valuable to share.

New research appears to quantify just how good fruits and vegetables are for you.
I read about a twelve-year study with over sixty-five thousand people involved.

The research concluded that those who consumed seven or more daily portions-each roughly half a cut of fresh fruits or vegetables reduced their risk of death (from heart disease and cancer) by FORTY-TWO percent. That is astounding!

Think about it. If you saw a sale with forty-two percent off the purchase – you would absolutely consider buying whatever it the item was, wouldn’t you?

Consuming the same amount dropped the risk of dying specifically from cancer by twenty-five percent, and from heart disease by thirty one percent.

These figure are stunning. The effect of just increasing fruits and vegetables is absolutely worth the effort. The study showed even minimally increasing your fruits and vegetables
Will really pay off in the long run.

It’s never too late to help the body to heal, and for the children, now is the time to begin to create healthful habits that will keep them well and strong for all their lives.

It isn’t as difficult as you might think. There are so many good choices, and your attitude about the “yummy” goods will make a big difference to your children. Do not try to con them or bribe them with sugary treats…or you will increase the risk of “other” problems by the sugar!

Car seats for infants and toddlers – WHY are they so important?

October 2, 2013

This is why you put your infant or toddler in the government approved car seat.

I am all for government in LESS of our business, but when it comes to our children and grandchildren, I am one hundred percent for whatever it is that makes them safe.

Saturday my friend and I went to a yard sale in the “country.”  The road

was a main road, and usually busy, but on the outskirts of town.  It is a two-lane road.

We saw a yard sale sign and signaled a left turn.  The sale was the first house on the right, so we parked and walked in.  There were quite a few people chatting and lots of goodies on tables and the ground.

Within just a couple of minutes everyone heard a VERY LOUD BANG.

Right there at the turn was a white van that had been going very fast on the road.  The little red car was exactly where we had been a couple of minutes ago – but now it was CRUSHED.

I didn’t see the person in the front move at all.  Then she turned her head briefly and turned back and it seemed to drop.

The van was crunched, but much less.  The driver of the van was sitting in her seat with her head in her lap.

Within a few minutes the fire truck pulled up and a couple of ambulances.

All we could do was pray.  I am still unable to walk fast, but my friend (prior to the emergency vehicles arriving ran out to the vehicles).

As she was arriving at the front car a man walked back and said, “I couldn’t believe it…I looked in the car and saw two big eyes looking right at me.

There is a baby in the backseat.”

Everyone started praying and saying “Oh God, no.”  The tangled mess just looked like the baby must have been crushed too.  There was no room at all.

While he was telling us this friend spoke to the woman in the car. She told her not to move her neck, as she was wedged in and afraid of neck injuries.  The woman asked her to please take her baby out of the car.  Which she did.

NOW THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS IN THE PROPER SEAT…the eighteen month old was totally unhurt.  Her little feet were about an inch from the front seat, but the seat she was in had kept the car from crushing her!

I was unable to find out if the mommy was okay, but I am praying that she is.  Life can change in a moment.  Please protect your children, and hug and love them every moment you get a chance!  They are precious gifts from God.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful men who know how important this job is, and made it a priority!

June 17, 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Dad-father-daddy-pops” are just a few of the names used by the children of the world.  Though I know there are families who make it successfully without a father figure in the household, you guys who have made a difference in the lives of your children —-give yourselves a hand!  SERIOUSLY

Parenting is probably the toughest job ever, and there is NO MANUAL to follow, for each child is unique, If you have stuck with it and tried your best, then God bless you!

Women are pretty competent at handling sixteen different things at a time.

Men generally, on the other hand, prefer to do one thing at a time.  Children demand so much, without even asking. They just have so many needs, and they are geared according to each child – Geared to emotions, intellect, overall health, and so forth.

No need to be specific about all the DEMANDS a father may find himself in the middle of, on a single day.  A good father shows kindness and love,

but firmness in decisions that benefit the children.  He must have patience with the repetitious demands small children requires.  The list of “requirements” to fulfill the position of GREAT DAD goes on……..

So if you’ve had ONE person say “Happy Father’s Day” today, then you probably are one of the “good ones”.  CONGRATULATIONS…. it is the most demanding of positions, and the job with probably the least rewards; that is until one of these things happen:

1.    Your daughter climbs on your lap and hugs you and says, “I love you daddy.”

2.    Your son says, “Thanks Dad for always being there for me when I needed you.”

3.    Or you look at your infant grandchild and remember the first time your son swam on his own, or the time your daughter showed you her prom dress and you realized she’d become a woman……….

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY GUYS!  If the family forgets to thank you every day for all you do, just watch them grow into fine young men and women, and know the JOB YOU DID was one of dire importance in the success of the future of our civilization and the planet earth.

Do you love your children?

June 5, 2013

Violence and horror in the USA

Twenty-year old Dillon Quick told authorities that he thought about stabbing people at age eight.  It has also been brought to the public’s attention that he had thought about cutting off people’s faces, and eating them.  Articles found in his home include an animal dissection book, and a Hannibal lector mask.

Last night my husband and I watched two programs on television that we watch weekly.  One is  “The Americans” and the other is “Southland”.  My husband likes action shows, and the writing is okay on both.

Do you know how many deaths occurred in eight Quentin Tarantino movies?  Approximately five hundred and sixty!

There are approximately four hundred and forty three thousand deaths from smoking each year, two hundred thousand rapes (female/male) per year,

fifty thousand deaths per year from violence, and over ten thousand drunk driving fatalities  (one hundred and fifty thousand alcohol related deaths) in the USA.  Over one hundred and fifty MILLION drivers were arrested in 2010 for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

CANNABIS / MARIJUANA – 0 deaths.

What do these paragraphs have in common? Hollywood.  You can watch a movie, television, or something produced in Hollywood on the internet, and you will be guaranteed of one thing ninety-eight percent of the time.  There will be someone smoking, a violent rape, casual and consistent drinking of “straight” shots of hard liquor, shootings, stabbings, horrific and hideous actions portrayed by the “famous” and the “wanna be” famous.

GUESS WHAT?  Many people are highly infatuated with “movie stars” due to media coverage.  I really love the award shows they concocted to promote themselves, so they can give themselves presents, awards, and publicity.  The millions and millions and millions of dollars these people make is not enough.  Johnny Depp made thirty-five million dollars alone for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. They even get a pass from our illustrious “wanna be” a star, and king of the world obama.

I know – athletes make fabulous money.  Corporation CEO’s make millions.

Surgeons make millions (however they save lives and do unbelievably wonderful things for human beings sometimes.

So what is it that REALLY maddest me mad about the “movie stars”?  Re-read paragraphs one through five again.

These people can promote their politics, donate their time for a concert to help raise money for a cause (even though they could each donate a million dollars – and quit asking peasants for help.  They can even open schools for a “chosen” few to educate them.

BUT ARE THEY ASKED TO NOT PARTICIPATE in all the “acting” that reviles everything normal families and citizens consider honorable and good.  NOPE!  They are fed millions to feed the peasants. In my mind, incidents that happen regularly have been washed over our brains repeatedly until we become insensitive to many, and obsessive for more blood and violence.

Scenarios are created by persons who may be just a “bit off”, mimicking

What has become daily food for their minds?

Little children are placed in front of the television to give two working parents a break (perhaps).  But insidious and questionable materials are presented to these children as early as six o’clock in the evening, and from that hour forward.  Parents get tired.  Tired of monitoring EVERYTHING from television to music, to the Internet, to the cell phone, a parent’s guard is let down “just for a few.”

Honestly, having the Internet available on cell phones has just made the burden more difficult…….

These are problems WE, as parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors, must address.  If we don’t get some control the next couple of generations will be OUT OF CONTROL.

Respect has almost become a word unknown to children because of the “no spank” laws that are used to intimidate parents.  I, personally, think a good swat on the behind is an “attention getter”.  I don’t mean a swat to relieve your stress, but a swat to just get a child’s attention.

HOWEVER you decide to handle your children is your business, but GET INVOLVED in their “growing into adults”.  I know it’s rough, and especially for working parents and single moms and dads, but NO ONE else can help the children unless you get involved….don’t wait until it’s too late and the person who gets involved is the parole officer!   Don’t wait until they are pregnant!  DON’T wait a moment longer…EVEN if you have to be the bad “guy”.  You CANNOT be your child’s friend until they are grown.

They are the innocent ones.  They are SCREAMING for your consistent, fair, and REAL attention.

If you need to, get help.  Read a book on parenting at your child’s appropriate age, counsel with other parents or a church group, and for heaven’s sake, pray!

I speak with love and from experience regarding these things.  Lastly, put down the wine glass or your drink when the glass is empty the first time.

Don’t have regrets that could have been joyous moments!

I am living proof that you should enjoy your life moment by moment.

Never waste a moment when you can say, “I love you.

Never pass the opportunity by to hug someone you love.  Hug that person

close to you. Remember how wonderful it is that they are a part of your life.

Be grateful for small miracles we often take for granted.

Each moment is an opportunity to begin again, no matter what may seem impossible.  We are given life, and it is a wonderful gift.

Don’t diminish your spirit by dousing yourself with man’s enemies –

alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, hatred, vanity, and over-indulgence of anything that can harm you.

Time and circumstance happens to all men.

We have no real control over our lives, though we like to think we do.

The ONLY thing we have control of one hundred percent of the time, is our response to circumstances that come to us.

One moment I was thanking God for the blue sky, stars, my husband, the health of my children and grandchildren, and within a moment my life has changed forever.  I thank God all those awesome things I was thanking Him for have not changed.

I am working hard to recover from something I NEVER thought would happen to me.  For those of you who are following this blog, I will expound tomorrow, but for now I must rest.

God bless you and your loved ones.  God bless us all.  Now go hug someone or tell them you love them!
