Flu hits children – Know the symptoms

January 15, 2015

Children and the Flu: This year it is serious. At least twenty-one children are dead from the flu. It hasn’t even hit all the states yet. Part of the reason is carelesness. Do not forget to make children wash their hands often. Not a quick wash, but a thorough wash.

Remind them to bend their elbows and cough in that “cove” if they cough. This year the flu is hardest on the children three and under (and older senior citizens).

If your child has a cough, a temperature, is achy or they have a headache – pay attention. Keep them home and take care of them. Even preschool can be the setting for LOTS of flu transiting from one child to another. .

It may be a bit inconvenient to keep the child home, but think of this – is it worth loosing them because of the inconvenience?

Please be considerate of others and also lessen the illness of your own children by really paying attention and taking care of them. Do not misunderstand. I have three children and I know it is a tireless job and no handbook big enough to cover each child and all that can happen.

Accolades to parents as it is sometimes a thankless job that takes you to the brink of insanity. But the children are our gifts, you will make it through, and then some day just when you least expect it, one of your children will tell you they love you and you are a good parent. Your heart will be full.

God bless you and all the children. Make today child friendly and tell them how proud you are of them and give them a big hug “just because.” We need to share this information with others. Pass the word and prayers!

THIS IS SOMETHING WONDERFUL! I AM SURE YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Here is the best reason I have ever heard for just “turning” the covers down on the beds and not making them each day!  The air freshens the sheets and dries out any moisture that may be left on them, and at the same time kills bed mites!  Don’t cringe…we all have bed mites we can’t see!  YUK.

I will never make a bed again!

Black Widow Spiders

June 15, 2014

First, I would like to say Happy Father’s Day to all you guys who have worked so hard to be a good dad! It is one of the toughest jobs a man can have, and the most enduring- even if unemployment is up! THANK YOU for sticking with it; those little ones need you guys…so to dads, step-dads, and all you guys who participate in the lives of children thank you for your dedication and patience!

BY THE WAY, this post just shows another important task of you fathers….protecting the little ones!  Also those women who might be afraid of spiders, for instance, myself!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!!!

—————————————————————

Last evening my husband took a tour of our garage to find and “rid” us of any black widow spiders. He does this in the summer as they love dark places and our garage is a favorite hangout (also under things such as BBQ’s, outdoor tables, inside of wood piles-just as examples.)black widow

He found this one and asked if I would like to take a photo. She let me get quite close (though not too close for my comfort) – she was a big one. There are only four things I will kill if necessary: venomous spiders rattle snakes, mosquitoes and flies. The National Geographic website had this to report about black widows.

“This spider’s bite is much feared because its venom is reported to be 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake’s. In humans, bites produce muscle aches, nausea, and a paralysis of the diaphragm that can make breathing difficult; however, contrary to popular belief, most people who are bitten suffer no serious damage—let alone death. But bites can be fatal—usually to small children, the elderly, or the infirm. Fortunately, fatalities are fairly rare; the spiders are non-aggressive and bite only in self-defense, such as when someone accidentally sits on them.”

I think it is extremely important to put deet (mosquito repellent) on children and adults, if you are able. There is a new virus that makes a person very ill. Also, I have never been certain that they do not carry the aids virus. They do “take your blood” when they bite.

It always pays to be aware of some spiders – for your children’s safety. I wrote a post a while back about the brown recluse, and posted a photo of the damage one can do…it is deadly.

Northern California host’s lots of rattle snakes. Clearly if you hear a rattle and there isn’t a baby around – keep your eyes keenly aware of your surroundings.

This isn’t to alarm anyone, but knowledge is power when used and we all should share information that could be life saving. Someone made me aware of the brown recluse.

Oh the web of a black widow is very sticky-you can tell if it’s a black widow; and they hide during the light.

Enjoy the great outdoors – enjoy nature – just use good sense, and particularly for the little ones as they trust you to care for them. Have a beautiful day and a safe one! God bless you all.

I will be placing this same post on the stressmanagementmagic.com website today because of it’s importance to us all.

Good information for your health!

June 3, 2014

Just a short post, but thought this valuable to share.

New research appears to quantify just how good fruits and vegetables are for you.
I read about a twelve-year study with over sixty-five thousand people involved.

The research concluded that those who consumed seven or more daily portions-each roughly half a cut of fresh fruits or vegetables reduced their risk of death (from heart disease and cancer) by FORTY-TWO percent. That is astounding!

Think about it. If you saw a sale with forty-two percent off the purchase – you would absolutely consider buying whatever it the item was, wouldn’t you?

Consuming the same amount dropped the risk of dying specifically from cancer by twenty-five percent, and from heart disease by thirty one percent.

These figure are stunning. The effect of just increasing fruits and vegetables is absolutely worth the effort. The study showed even minimally increasing your fruits and vegetables
Will really pay off in the long run.

It’s never too late to help the body to heal, and for the children, now is the time to begin to create healthful habits that will keep them well and strong for all their lives.

It isn’t as difficult as you might think. There are so many good choices, and your attitude about the “yummy” goods will make a big difference to your children. Do not try to con them or bribe them with sugary treats…or you will increase the risk of “other” problems by the sugar!

This photo REALLY is worth a thousand words!

CREATE a beautiful day and be careful on the road – any road!  I read that Friday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM is the most dangerous time for people to run red lights.  I have seen some horrific accidents, so please be cautious and courteous.  No ‘flipping anybody off” either…..you can cause road rage, or remember they could be just crazy enough to run into you!  Say a prayer for the offender instead – that person may be going through a difficult time – even a smile might lessen his or her problem.  Manners (like my grandma used to say) make a big difference in your response from others…even on the road..

God bless!

This morning’s post is rather scattered, but I never claimed to be one hundred percent normal.

December 11, 2013

This is where I am this morning – where ever it may be:
When I can’t lift my feet to move out of the bed and wonder
Why there is another morning
My mind turns to the men and the women who have given
Their limbs, their lives,
To defend career politicians

Each time before a plunder or a war, they permeates our minds,
With hatred contempt, and wasted time spend hating the whole world blind.
He never knew why the hatred current raged,

He never knew why his directive was to become engaged
To kill at will, to find and maim, he was taught to be loyal to our country,
His efforts would keep us free.

They lied to our children, they lied to us, now we are seated in a
Place of ill trust.  Bleed the workers dry.  Let the sluffers lie.
.

When I try to walk and the pain shoots through my leg like a bullet,
I remember I have never seen bullets fly.
I have never seen the blood of a stranger I had to kill.

These men and women so valiantly stand, while the politicians
Just smile and put out their hand.
I want a trip, time off with the family, take your guns away, but
My guard is a dandy.

Suits and ties cover lies for a while, a band of white teeth
Spread across a smiling face, why it is our politicians,
Cheating on wives, lying to our faces, writing bad checks, they still have their places.

Why shouldn’t they smile they have it all, had millions to spend on elections, and now
Everything is tfor them for free – dash the salary.  Who needs it?

This is scattered like my emotions.  My pain is overwhelming; I cannot even imagine the courage of this brave group of souls who are guardians to our nation.  They give
Limbs and lives believing they are protecting the sovereignty of our beautiful nation,
While elected officials, all along, plan their vacation.

Centered I must be now and face my pain. Faith carries me to where I must go, though where it may be, I simply don’t know. My heart and my prayers and my gratitude to all who have died – and to those who suffer far more than me, for to live in continuous
pain and anguish is the hardest of all, these young men and women, these babes from our arms sent to war after war.

While the cronies laugh amongst themselves, reveling in their power and might, the people, we know – something’s not right.  It must change.  No more wars, no more
playing of the world like a monopoly game.

I wonder what would happen if each one in power was to find themselves required to send one son or daughter to the front lines of a war.  Required to watch as they come
home without limbs or in a body bag.  Do you think this would open their eyes.

Do you know there is only a VERY TINY percentage of men and women in our congress now who have served in the armed forces?  They don’t feel our pain, our poverty, our loss.  They don’t care, I swear.

The band of citizens is growing in numbers – a group united by God and living souls.
There will be a time of remorse to many, but their time will have passed.

I still believe in the power of one person to make a difference.  You will have a domino effect on those in the circle of your life. The world’s peoples are growing impatient with the greedy bastards.  Power with love and what is right.  Never give up or give in.  I won’t – I promise.

This is what happened because I wasn’t able to kayak for eight months…..

September 15, 2013

kayak apple

I just thought I would get my kayak “bag” out and clean it out and see what was still in there from the last time I kayaked.

Whoops!  I forgot I had an apple still in there.  Hahhaha .  It made me laugh so I thought I’d share it with you.  I can’t wait to be able to get out in my little boat again.

There will be a day – in the meantime, it’s physical therapy 4 days a week, lots of prayer, and gratitude for being able to have access to share a bit of my joy in living.

God bless.  Have a beautiful day !

Here is what I really enjoy about getting older

August 9, 2013

1.  When I feel some detachment to something – it is not indifference.  It means I have lived and suffered, and having suffered, I can draw back and see with my heart – not raw emotions.

2.  I can be honest and not play “games” any more because I know honesty is always the best response.  You can never get caught when you are honest.

3.  My tongue is my sword, and I have a well-honed blade that cuts with love.

4.  Because I am true to myself, others resonate with it, and I ring a tone of truth in peace.

5.  I have nothing to loose, but much to share with whomever chooses to ask or listen.  I will not volunteer to speak unless it is a matter of life and death; otherwise I wait to be invited.

6.  My personal demands are no longer of great importance.  As long as I keep my attitude positive and my heart true, whatever I need comes to me.

7.  My faith is enriched and I truly do hand my problems to the Lord in prayer – and then release them to show my faith.

8.  I have no reason to try to persuade anyone of anything.  I am happy in who I am, and only want to share love, understanding and joy.

9.  I have seen enough to separate irrelevance from essence.  I have neither the time nor the energy to wast on superficialities.

10. I do not seek to usurp power from anyone.  I have unlimited resources from within and I know it.

11.  I do not envy anyone of anything.  I enjoy others success vicariously, and applaud their luck and efforts.

12. I take most of life with a grain of salt, as it truly is a divine comedy, if we see it as such.  As mama said, “the party was going long before I arrived and will be going long after I leave.  I will just enjoy it.  The most important legacy you can leave is the legacy of love, and faith in the fact our Great Spirit loves us each individually.”

Lastly, I am grateful for a mind that is still sharp, an enduring and healing body, and the love that people share with me.

Create a wonderful weekend and know you are worth loving…you are perfect just as God created you – accept you as you would others.  I truly care!

A Blessing Perhaps Taken for Granted.

A Blessing Perhaps Taken for Granted.

Cough it up! Let’s See a Smile

May 28, 2013

Hey, if I can do it, you can.  Been out and about for a month (emergency room, hospitals, etc.)so I haven’t been writing regularly.  Hope to do so now.  Since I have to learn to walk all over again, I think I may have time to plunk the keys of the computer a bit more regularly.

I hope you all are remembering that there is no guarantee in life.  Just when you think everything is perfect (or a big mess) – everything changes.  Be grateful for all the big and little moments that are wonderful!  Evaluate what is really worth getting upset, fearful or angry about, and then toss them in the trash can – mostly!  CHOOSE happiness.  I am going to even though my wonderful little life has turned totally upside down.  I get to create a new life.

I also am not just forgetting that my disabilities right now affect others too – my husband, my family, etc.  I will forge ahead and work to create this new life into a positive and loving one.

Hug someone right now.  Jump up and down for me.  I will think of you all and prayers will be coming your way.  If you would say a prayer or two for me, I will feel it, and thank you now.

God bless you and all your loved ones and families and friends!  More soon.
