PITY PARTY

March 27, 2018

Would you like to come to my pitiful pity party.
You don’t need be strong, you don’t need be hearty.
They’ll be no refreshments served, no cupcakes or treat,
This party is strictly for those who are sad, mad doesn’t count,
don’t kick up your feet, this pitiful party is just for the weak.

Those who are healing and can’t get outside,
those disabled souls still filled with false pride.
Walk on those crutches, push that sweet walker,
Think “healing is now” – don’t rush, don’t be a sucker.

Takes a minute to damage the one place you live –
Now use time to “catch up”, to to think and to pray,
Take a breath and think “healing” – it could happen today.

If not, if its longer and seems like a life time for you,
Then keep your wits about you and do what you do!
Write out the bills, organize files, sit in the sun,
Stay loaded with smiles…

Think of this time as a rest, a vacation from stress;
Pluck your eye brows, put on a mud pack, and do all the rest…
Things normally crammed into “when I can do it”,
Be positive and pray, and you will always get through it!

Just to let you know, so you don’t feel down and alone
I’m healing myself – slowly each day, and living my words,
So now what can “WE” say? It is a short time, a little rhyme;
An avenue to a whole new experience WE see NOW.
Let’s be an example, while doing our best, to help others to heal,
Take a breath, a “forced” rest isn’t really all bad.
I see others and know some wish that they had…
A minute to rest.
A minute to write.
Just relax in the day,
And sweet dreams at night.

I believe in hugs. I believe in love.

March 16, 2018

When I hug someone I don’t do it for any other reason than I care (of course not including my husband…I love him and am passionately in love with him).

Years ago I taught a class “hug therapy”.  It began because I often walked up to strangers, women in particular, and ask if I could hug them.  I chose people I thought could use a pick me up, a little up close and in personal act of warmth and caring. Often an elderly person, or a person who looked kind of sad or let down.

I was always received with welcome smiles and arms open.  We would share a big hug and both of us left smiling and feeling as if we had exchanged something words could not express.  We both felt better.

At the time I taught high intensity aerobics and also a senior class.  When I began requiring a hug at the end of the session, I only had one person balk.  She said she wasn’t a person who liked to be touched.  Everyone else was totally up to share this sign of affection.

Personally  when I hug someone I am sharing a bit of my health and joy with that person.  Hugs can be very healing and sometimes, invaluable!

A hug should only be shared with permission.  That is called respect.  So at the end of each class students would line up and we each looked in each others eyes, smiled, and hugged.  It was wonderful….

Two things that came of this, were such a wonderful surprise to me.

The lady who chose not to hug watched for weeks as everyone else shared this simple act of closeness, with no expectations.  One day after class she walked towards me and said,”Okay, I will try it.”  She stood still as I wrapped my arms around her and gave her a big mindful hug.  (That is just a strong-gentle hug that lasts ten seconds or so, then a release.)  She stood back and smiled.  From that point forward she always waited for a parting hug.  It was lovely because she soon “relaxed” into it, and hugged me back. She told me, “I don’t know what it is, but when we hug I feel like a connection of two living souls.  I feel loved and empowered.”  I often think of that and hope she is still hugging and being hugged.

The other wonderful words bestowed upon me were these:  “I drive twenty-five miles to take this class, and though I like the class a lot – I really come for the hugs.  This is the only time I get hugged all week, and I love it.  It keeps me looking forward to the day…just for that hug.”  This thought still makes me teary-eyed.

When my daughter or girlfriends get together, we often hug tightly and jump up and down for joy!

Such a simple act that can mean so much to another human being. I know “times” are different, and there are so many things we can feel afraid to say or do, but if you can hug someone today, do it!

Just remember to be respectful and ask, “Do you mind if we have a hug?”

Addendum:  I know several Chinese people who say is is not their custom to hug strangers or anyone except husband/wife and family.  We spoke in depth and I do understand the concept and protocol of this custom… I respect their wishes as such….I didn’t ask, but perhaps that is why many bow upon meeting (or is that a Japanese custom?)  I am not certain.  I believe not judging, but respecting “others” customs is important in this melting pot of the world.

Have a beautiful day.

Exposed – Brad and Angelina

January 29, 2018

For anyone who may have thought this post might have been about someone being naked, or caught in “a situation” – SORRY!  Also, I just used Brad and Angelina’s names to get your attention!  They aren’t mentioned in the post, so if it is only them you are looking for, best stop reading and move on…and have a great day!

This is a wholesome post with some old wives tales exposed, and other things too! By the way, if you question if I am an old wife, I’ve been married 30 years – does that count?

Enjoy.

A hearty breakfast of sausage (or bacon), eggs, and buttered toast will help your husband prepare for the day – whether is work is physical or mental or both!

A lie. That is probably what is clogging your husbands arteries and may, indeed, cause him a fatal heart attack in the future.
—————————————————————-
All millennials are not spoiled, self-fish, thoughtless and shallow brats.

A lie. There are many “quieter” millennials who have all the qualities of an adult child you would work and hope for in their futures. Once again the media has shed bias and light on those millennials who are not full of hope – but seem rather hopeless. Remember: there is always hope.
—————————————————————
If you let a dog lick your wound, it will help to heal it because their saliva and tongue have healing properties.

Sorry, not true. There are no healing properties in letting the dog lick you – unless you like it and you feel deep down, it may help. What helps is the sedative like feeling you get when something loves you unconditionally, and would do anything for you…like lick a wound.
—————————————————————-
If you dump grease down the sink you should run hot water.

A lie. Run cold water so the grease will not clog the pipes. If you run hot water and fail to get all the grease down, when it cools – it clogs.
—————————————————————-
If you are a Christian you automatically forgive someone if they have done something terrible to a member of your family and/or friend.

A fallacy. Christians have the same protective nature all humans do….they are “supposed” to forgive – but often it takes a lengthy period of time to do so. Sometimes forgiving is impossible. That does not mean they aren’t Christians. It means they are human. God knows hearts.
—————————————————————-
If you are using a recipe that calls for buttermilk, and you don’t have any, you can use vinegar in the milk instead. Not a lot, 1/2 – 1 tablespoon.

True
——————————————————————
If you are out of toothpaste you can brush your teeth with baking soda.

True. It works. Kind of tastes nasty but its better than hemorrhoid cream. DON’T ASK.
——————————————————————
If you don’t have shampoo or are short on time, use corn starch to clean your hair.

True. Just drop pour on top, then bend down and pour more. In that position rub it through you hair as if it was water. Then shake it out and brush. (Of course be over something that catches the corn starch that falls…like a sink, outside, or standing on newspapers.
——————————————————————-
You can use make-up and vitamins longer than the label says you can.

True. When you think you are done with a product, open it and pour it into a container wherein you can still use it. When corporations tell you not to use it – that is a ploy so you will trash it and buy more. As far as vitamins – if they are hard pills they are fine. If they are fluid or in a capsule that melts in your mouth, test one. SMELL what is inside. Your nose will tell you what to do.
—————————————————————————

If you think you will have a wonderful day, barring a catastrophe, you will!

TRUE. The day is in your mind. No matter what happens to you, your response is 100% your choice. In hard times there are lessons to be learned. That does not mean you need to be miserable. As ye thinketh, so shall ye be….CREATE A WONDERFUL DAY! Love one another!
I THINK YOU CAN!

I REMEMBER….

January 9, 2018

The difference between positive thoughts and negative ones…is simply a word or two.

Rather than mentioning how much I MISS specific things, as an optimist I will say instead, I have WONDERFUL MEMORIES of things. It is so easy, but we get in the habit of using negative words and phrases, and our minds, being brilliant learning machines, places the words used into thoughts and feelings.

Today I would like to share memories of things I treasure. I will hope and pray that the children of today, though perhaps unable to enjoy the exact memories, will have exceptional memories of their own as they grow into adults.

I remember sitting in a tree when I was eight or so, and I enjoyed the sound of the birds and the big clouds mixing together before a storm. I ate so many tart green apples it did make me ill for a bit – but worth every moment I had sitting in that tree.

I remember how the sound of a train made me feel warm and think of places in the country and the thrill when the engine operator saw me and tooted his long horn. The sound still makes me stop and think….

I remember laying in the grass and listening to silence, while clouds configured into animals and faces, and wonderful things.

I remember riding my bike with my sister to the high school in the evening. There was no fear, no helmet, and no restriction to be home before dark. We dropped our bikes and changed into swimsuits and jumped into the pool. I loved to do a headstand in the water – legs straight as a board.

I remember walking on a downed tree with my cousin on the end of it, pushing it up and down to see if he could shake me off. We laughed and smiled and then went fishing on the river in Kings Canyon.

I remember seeing so many butterflies when the flowers came into bloom. A butterfly would flutter by…The bees came round too when the flowers were in bloom, another memory of joy.

I remember going to a camp where my brother and sister and I floated candles on little lily pads made of cardboard as a show of our faith in Jesus. The lake was brilliant with the light of so many that night.

I remember being scolded at that camp because I let a boy kiss me lightly on the lips. It is not the scolding that brings a fond memory, but because I liked the boy – it was the kiss!

I remember always, with my family, sharing laughter and song. Often we broke into song for no particular reason. We still do.

I am joyful and grateful I was born with something inside my heart than always finds a way to smile and be positive. I believe I was born to love, and in turn, I have been given love by so many people along the way.

I remember as a young adult someone told me “I have the cracklings of a healer” – which to me is wonderful. I want others to feel their hearts almost explode with joy, and their bodies and minds to heal..I want them to KNOW and use the power of the Spirit within.

I am living, thirty years now, with a man who kept his promises…and still does.

Fireflies, bonfires, a church bell ringing, children giggling, the feel of a baby laying on your chest-your heartbeat and the infants heartbeat, the dog laying upside down, sleeping and snoring, the unity of loved ones when Spirit leaves a body, the faith that keeps you going even when it seems impossible, the movement of the foot when a piece of music begins and that rhythm awakens the body and prods it to get up and dance just for fun, a sunset on the beach with sand sifting between your toes, the sunrise in the pines when the smell of coffee and the sound of crackling bacon awakens you, the colors as leaves turn from green to red and drop off of the trees, the dogs jumping in a pile of leaves you just raked up, a child’s eyes as he sits up in a bathtub, after showing you he can put his head under water, the parents gathered together to watch the soccer game with the young children beginning to hone skills in physical challenges, the bravery of a young soldier when he comes home with only one leg and works to begin again, holding hands, a good movie that leaves you smiling and feeling elated, the smile of someone you don’t know sitting next to you in stopped traffic, the look someone you love gives you when they shine eyes upon you, and you know they love you, and oh so very much more……all the miracles of the moments, the days, the months, the years.

THIS IS my year of GRATITUDE for all the memories, and all the wonderful moments of life to come – NO MATTER WHAT!

I pray this will be the beginning of a new and beautiful year for you too! REMEMBER there are a few ways to make it happen.
No matter what happens keep in mind you ALWAYS have a choice in how you respond; make it a positive response.
Prayer works so use it. (Even if you question this, try one prayer a day and see what happens!)
Wake up and say, “This is going to be a very good day.” Turn around potentially bad incidents into a learning scenario, and move forward.
Think before you speak. As ye think, so shall ye become.
Be a better listener.
Love one another – and FORGIVE. We all make mistakes.

Just One of Those Days…..

November 29, 2017

P1010010Yesterday was just one of those days you spend more time recovering and working to take care of business when you just want to run away….When you should be paying attention to important things – like playing with the puppy!

Away from all the politics, the news, the dissension between peoples, and all the pain life brings to us over the years. I am going to apologize for yesterday’s post because I read it to my husband last night. He is always interested in what I’ve written. As I read it I realized it was
“scattered” – my writing was not up to what I feel it should be, by now!

My opinions were true, but if I am going to voice opinions I cannot do it when I am upset or in great pain. It besmears my thinking.

I fell again two days ago. Not being able to feel most of my feet when I walk is difficult, and sometimes the remnants of drop foot take over. Basically I fell backwards landed on my left wrist and fanny, then my head fell back and slammed hard into the kitchen cabinets. Actually I put my wrist down to break the fall so I wouldn’t land flat on tile on my back. That could have really damaged an already fused back. It worked – just “tweeked” it a bit.

Still I was in immediate pain (nothing broken), with a radical headache. That night I iced everything and sat still trying to get to a position that didn’t hurt.

God is good. The next morning I was stiff like a board, but ready to roll…the mind is a great healer…as the Bible says, “Physician heal thyself.”

So what I want to say is GOOD MORNING brothers and sisters. Good morning to one and all.
We can only affect those in the circle of our own lives. We cannot turn sour and hard because a few are screaming about everything.

Today I am going to concentrate on all the wonderful and happy things in life. If I start to turn a corner to worry or anger, I am going to stop and take a deep breath or two, and just say “Thank you God – let me begin again this moment. I am going to stay on the straight and narrow of changing the world, one person at a time.

I am going to prioritize my “list” of to do’s and let all the rest be in on the desk waiting for their turn!

Lastly I will say, don’t put your family in harm’s way to “buy, buy, buy”! Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday, and soon other days dedicated to keeping the people poor while making a few others rich. Be wise. Happy fun and love each other….doesn’t cost a thing!

God Morning!

October 6, 2017

It felt good to “speak my peace”. It is still an open venue to voice an opinion, at least for the time being.
As I sit here feeling the blessed cooler air and hearing the soft ring of chimes that move with the wind, I want to say, “God Morning”…I want it to be a God filled morning and day.
In writing I released what I know to be a mutual opinion, standing with many millions of people who have little voice in what is happening today. We are the peasants. I say that with no sorrow or anger, it is just the way it is – and I am a happy one! Happy beyond belief the majority of my life. It is a blessing to still be able to recognize the beauty of the earth we live upon, and the magnificence of the stars in the sky above.
I am an American. I love the essence of America, the lands, the individual peoples who live in the different areas, and the diversity of our people. The thing I feel about America that is different than any other country in the world is that for all my life, I have seen, when time is of the essence, ALL AMERICANS JOIN HANDS together, pray together, and work together for the good of America! There has been no division or devise plans when diligence and teamwork are needed to keep America free, and its people melding together for strength, healing and peace.
It has been that way ALL my life, and I want it to remain the same.
The only thing that has changed is the media driven panic and pressing onto any story that will ultimately make money! If we were NOT infringed upon by the madness of the media, we wouldwe would NOT come unhinged when faces of the FEW discontent citizens make a statement, albeit at the wrong time and place, whilst there are millions upon millions who are working side by side, living side by side, and trying to make amends for those mistakes ALL human beings make at one time or another.

Anger begets anger, violence begets violence, and love and peace…..begets love and peace.

If people want to change things then it will begin in the individual core of each person’s spirit.
DO NOT watch or read or listen to the inflammatory things the media presents each moment of the day. I challenge you to go just four days (and nights) without paying attention to the rhetoric presented us that creates discontent, worry, negativity or anger from within us.

If you pray, drop to your knee and humbly ask our Great Spirit (the proper name, if you read the Bible, is Jehovah) – to let the Holy Spirit fill us with love and graciousness. Ask for kindness and humility, and live your moments the best you can in the next four days, breathing and moving in love and peace.

I will offer you a “MONEY BACK GUARANTEE” (oh wait, I don’t get paid – haha) – that in these four days, if you meet the challenge, you will find an amazing four days upon you! The only other thing I suggest is that when you feel ANY negative feelings or worry, take a breath and say to yourself, “NOPE. Not going to wreck my peace and happiness….it will all work out some way!” Then exhale the negative thoughts into oblivion and begin again.

People always want to know why I am so happy…..well, beyond teaching stress management and relaxation techniques, I actually use them! God has given us soooooooo many gifts from within if we just use them! Breathing exceptionally good breaths will also create natural pain killers from within. The TRICK is…….like any habit we get into…..you must believe they will work.

Don’t forget – “money back guarantee!” SMILE just because it will make you feel better. Do not worry, if there is any dire emergency, it will find its way to you – don’t look – LIVE! I love you all! My husband asks how I can love people I don’t know? Easy – we are all brothers and sisters and members of the human family. We all cry, bleed, laugh, and some of us even laugh until our gut hurts! Just sayin’……….

(no I didn’t proof, so fire me! Lord I feel silly today!)

Thank you!

Photograph taken in Corvallis Oregon.  Added just for a reminder that there is still beauty all around us!

fullsizeoutput_5aI am nothing without love, and nothing without my faith of the Unseen Spiritual Power and Creator of it all. His presence is within me, flooding me with a will to live and the power to carry on, no matter what the future appears to be.

He holds me up, pushes me along, and gives me the encouragement to keep trying. I see Jesus struggling along the path, having done nothing but love and enlighten, being tortured as he marched to His grisly end on the planet, for a time.

His time with His creations should have been filled with intense love and trust. That baby boy, to grow to be a man, was filled with curiosity and kindness. He did no wrong to anyone. His faith in His Father was unshaken, and yet He was tortured and ridiculed for never denying his heritage and position as the leader of love and forgiveness.

My time is limited. Just when I feel I am not qualified to even accept the Grace offered as a full bounty, I am reminded by someone I love that I am His child still.

I must move WITH grace, having been given this gift freely. I must accept that because He stills sings in my heart, without me ever touching Him, He touches me, and still moves me to tears because of the thought of His love for me..for all His creations. I must accept that no matter what, He wants me with him forever…and you.

All my flaws, all my insecurities, all the times of strife I let this world almost get the better of me. He has never left my heart and my mind. He stands steadfast with me amidst the horrors of the world and will always be my shield and source.

I am ever grateful for His subtle and enduring love that moves me back to Him again with just mere words. I am forever of His mind and Love, and forgive, even myself, for my sometimes awkward and inept words and ways. For those times I let evil grasp me and fool me.

Once again I am empowered and able to move with grace and beauty. I simply awoke and I am transformed again. Create a beautiful day. Fill it with love and forgiveness. Each moment we are able to forgive and begin again!

We should all love one another, even if just in an act of kindness. Smile for no reason. See the beauty of each individual. Take a breath and believe YOU are able to change your world, and the worlds of those who are a part of you life…even if you simply pass by in the market. You are in charge. Use the innate power that fills the space in your heart saved only for God and Godly things. For heavens sake, and the sake our being – hug someone! I love you.

How to Receive Love – Part 2

June 7, 2017

GOOD MORNING. Today I will finish my 10 thoughts on How to Receive Love!

First, please read yesterdays post and the five initial thoughts the the subject. If you ask what makes me such an authority on the subject I will only say I have received so much love over the years sometimes it is stunning to me.

I have also had the worst times a person can endure and been treated at times, quite poorly.. I won’t go into details, but to me, the past IS the past. We can either learn to survive and thrive, or we can live in the past and wither under its powers. That is the beauty of today. It is a new day. It is a NEW LIFE – one to make with what you dream.

Even if commitments are wearing you thin, and challenges have reached the top of the pendulum, keep in mind – at this point, you can choose either direction – drop to the bottom or rise to the top. (If you aren’t sure what a pendulum is – find out! UNDERSTANDING is a key to receiving love.)

These five I will expound upon but in a shorter version (at least I will attempt shorter – I have been called a word meister, although others are far beyond me there, I do consider myself a life meister…

5. Forgive. If you “need” to forgive in a relationship, then do it…forgive and forget. If you can’t forget – you may as well say farewell instead of torturing yourself and someone else.
6. Be understanding of others. There is always a reason for a frown or nasty attitude. The person may be able to be touched with a smile. There are also those who will continue to be nasty no matter what. If you feel that negative or EVIL, do not stick around and think you can change them. Just be grateful to be free and say a prayer for them.
7. Always be polite and thoughtful. Keep conversation ALIVE. Conversation is a key to a great relationship and deep love. In the end, friendship will outlive everything else.
8. Be flexible – accept people for who they are, don’t get involved to change them!
9. Open your heart to receive love. Don’t boil in a pot of fear from past heart aches. That is the past. If you don’t step up and find YOU – you will not gain your confidence. Remember love YOU. You are unique, one of a kind, a creation of God, and each of us has something very special….dig that out and let your life begin again.
10. FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT YOU MUST GIVE LOVE – real appreciation for each and every human being you come meet. I am NOT talking about sexual love or appetite….if this is to happen, it will. If not, so what! I am saying find something good about each person, some quality or feature that is theirs and let them know honestly and timely, that you appreciate it. Each of us is individual. There is something amazing in each of us….instead of “judging according to what the “media” standards are, or consensus of one group or another….be your own person and allow your judgment to flow in the way of pulling the good towards you and appreciating instead of immediately “seeing” and thinking you know that person.

We all want love. In order to receive love, we must first “love”…love in the sense of all these ten points, add in your own thoughts, and just accept that if you are positive and keep being the best of you, I promise, some time – someone will gravitate towards you and you will know.

Don’t be anxious. JUST BE! DECIDE TODAY IS GOING TO BE THE BEST EVER. Find the smile,HOPE and get going! Give love and it will come back to you…perhaps not at the moment it is given, but I will stake my life on “this return” – far safer than the stock market or the horse races. Just begin to take life not quite so seriously – have fun, insist on it. All the things we worry about really are silly in the LONG run…each moment CAN glow with the light of love if you start it! Start the flow….so easy to love if you allow yourself!

Even if you don’t believe in the Great Spirit, pretend someone is watching you and wants you to succeed…give it your all. (Of course I KNOW in my heart of hearts this Spirit is available to us all, inbuilt and waiting for activation.) I will always acknowledge, the truth for me is Jesus loved us first. He came to us in a gentle Spirit, a human body, and humbled himself to love us all. How could I not acknowledge my truth when I have the opportunity.

Every time I have ever needed an arm to hold on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to kick me in the fanny to start again – a prayer calling for help was sent from me, and all I had to do was let go of worry and trust I am in good hands!

I want you to have love. You may be loved by someone who admires you and you might not even know it. Don’t get SEX mixed up with LOVE. Of course it can be wonderful, but it is NOT love – it is SEX, mating, pheromones, lots of things…it can be called “making love”, however most people that I have known over a lifetime that actually make love – are those who are together for a long time. For them its not “just” sex…it is “making love” and it gets better and better. Practice makes perfect. That’s all I am saying. 🙂

Addendum: Don’t expect a relationship that is to last, a love that is to last, not to be a challenge at times.

Apply these ten thoughts, get in the habit of it, and the challenges at first -will melt like butter into a flow of life. Lastly never forget to give each other space. Respect that. Respect you may be a “couple” but you are still each an individual with thoughts and dreams. Trust it. Inhale a long and slow breath now (do it 🙂 With your exhalation, let jealousy and insecurities of the past fly from you out the fingertips and into oblivion. You’ll be happy you did. It is a new day! CREATE a great one.

I love you, you human being!

Everything Physical

May 23, 2017

I awoke this morning after my horrific awake/dream (yesterdays post), and my first thought was a song “I have Jesus in my heart – you take Him too”. ..Well that was my first thought…so I climbed out of bed singing as I got a big drink of water and now a cup of coffee next to me.

My husband told me my struggle waking yesterday morning may have just been a continuation of my dream until I sat up. It is a possibility, though I firmly believe I was awake going from dream to physical reality.

My second thought this morning was physical…my back hurt and the pain (which is with me now until I pass on..) just is the way it is, so “boo-hoo”, everyone suffers. I will try to handle this within me. Why pass on the pain? I would rather pass on the joys and revelations of life.

The thought was not actually about my pain, it was about how physical pain transfers to mental anguish.  And that isn’t “just mental?,” you might think . Systems in our body function as a finely tuned violin. When one system is amiss, it does affect all others. Perhaps not immediately or constantly, but when the blood flows differently (say a blockage, or damages to the nerves that sit in proximity to the blood flow and the muscles) – You may realize Mind / Body / Spirit is not just a clever word mix, it is the absolute truth!

Sometimes I can actually feel the blood flow in my head or other parts of my body. I am in sync with feeling (or not feeling because of nerves) certain things that are happening to my body.  Listen to your body. Work with it.

As a former personal trainer and dancer, the fact that most of both my feet have severe nerve damage as a residual from breaking my back, is paramount to me. Aside from pain, numbness and a clumsy attempt to walk (as if I am actually able to balance without a cane 🙂 all affect me mentally as well….I don’t mean my mood, but the activity of my brain and other parts of my body.   Poor activity in my feet- unable to feel, blood flow perhaps, numbness in various parts of my body TRULY affects my mental state (as in “boy am I mental” (haha – that’s a given!)  and my physical state – because things don’t work properly -my entire being, is actually affected. Hence, Mind/body/spirit.

Somehow in re-reading that last paragraph, I think it might need changing…hope you find clarity in my meaning.  I am scattered today.

Think about it. Cut yourself some slack if you just don’t feel as good as you once did because of injuries or accidents or the aging process. Its probably not your fault…so don’t fret about it. You STILL have 100 percent. choice of how you respond to all these life altering events…..that is a huge gift!

Choose happiness always. Choose patience and understanding of YOUR OWN plight. Choose to understand that probably few really can step into to your shoes, though there are some that absolutely can physically! Wherein, you can excel until the day you die, and that is the use of your POWER of choice to behold life still in the best of terms. I have an advantage because I have a hidden source of constant help with the Holy Spirit within…seriously my best friend and help mate.

USE the magical gifts you perceive, dream of and pursue….All can STILL be achieved if you are “Mental” like I am. My husband says I live in Disneyland….join me, it is just a heck of a lot more fun, and WHY NOT? It’s just life!  Of course I can’t do everything I’ve always done, but it is fun to meet and rise above any challenge that faces me.  At least try!

Please take in a deep breath. Shout out an Amen (it means “so be it”) and now a BIG SMILE – just because you can! Back at you…..

GETTING OLDER

March 13, 2017

Whoever coined the phrases “growing old gracefully” and “the golden years” should be strung up on the nearest tree!

I don’t know how you grow old gracefully when your body becomes less agile and your ability to stretch is limited because you are afraid you’ll “snap” like an old rubber band.

I have no idea if those years are golden as my eyesight is not as good as it once was, and the insurance I paid into all my life doesn’t cover glasses or teeth (and those are the first things to go!) That’s Medicare of course.

Somehow in my education I didn’t realize-but you’d better- over a hundred dollars will be deducted for part B, before you even get social security. Then of course you have to pay for a supplement each month because Medicare doesn’t cover everything. The tricky part is if Medicare won’t cover any part of a procedure; neither will the supplement you are paying for -to the tune of over $150. a month ( and that is considered cheap if you can find one for that low price.) However, if you break your back (like I did) a good plan will keep you from loosing everything because there will be no cost to you except the monthly payment.

By the way, once you apply for Medicare you get a non-stop snail mail box full of “life insurance applications for your family to have, and burial insurance so they won’t suffer from the cost when you croak. I mean it is non-stop. Thanks for reminding my life of this planet will soon be over. Didn’t have enough to think about!

I plan to be “taken care of” the cheapest way possible. – Burn baby burn. I won’t take up precious space on this planet to plant my body and have people come there to tearfully remember me. I would rather plant flowers there! Also, in my world to come, I trust God will know how to fix everything my poor body has suffered in this lifetime.

After so many years the body just starts to kind of give out, and you never know when or where it will happen. After the first injury or accident then everyone is afraid to let you do anything because you may fall again. (For me, specifically, my broken back). I don’t know if that’s because they worry about you, or because they don’t want to have to take care of you again….

No worries. I swear you’ll never hear “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” come from my mouth! Older people are usually spoken of as the butt of jokes. The ironic thing is one day those folks will be the butt of the jokes-for now they are just butts!

Heaven forbid you want to do something really fun — “It’s not a good idea.” “It’s too dangerous”. If I weren’t happily married I’d go out and have unprotected sex just for the danger factor. (NOT REALLY)

“It’s not a good idea to go barefooted.” “You’d better not get a dog.” “Watch what you eat.” “Etc, etc. etc.

Kill me now.

If you find you have to use a walker, you will also discover the most humbling time of your life. We take walking for granted, like breathing, until we can’t. Never take one of these gifts for granted. But if you wind up on a walker, be grateful for it, and make sure you have a phone attached, and a basket so you can function at least minimally!

When you find you need to use a cane because some uncaring medical people left you out in the cold until you are in permanent disrepair, don’t worry about accidentally forgetting it…everyone will remind you that you need to take the cane.

The baggers at the grocery store begin to call you ma’am, and ask if you need help carrying one bag to the car. Don’t be foolish, take the help and save your energy for fun. Besides you will have conversations with many people who help you, and sometimes be grateful for the communication. Teenagers look at you like you have already died, and of course lost your mind way before that!

When you hear a whistle you know it’s just some older person grasping at the talent of whistling. “Whistling” – a talent once appreciated – long ago!. You know it’s not a “whistle” meant for you because you are so sexy and have such a stunning figure. I still am cute as a button though. I keep reminding my husband of that, planting a gentle seed.

Everything drops. What they don’t tell you if your feet get bigger too, and all the hair that used to grow on your legs just grows on your face now!

I don’t feel guilty about not being Martha Stewart in the housekeeping department, I will go outside and sit in the sun (still with book in hand) and read to my heart’s content. With my glasses off my home is perfectly dust free. With your husbands glasses off your wrinkles will hardly be noticeable.

What is “grandma in a box”? Well it’s not a coffin I’ll tell you that! I was going to wrap me in a box in birthday paper and surprise my granddaughter for her birthday. With my luck I probably would have suffocated and surprised her with grandma falling to the floor dead! Not a good surprise. Either that or be so stiff I would be permanently unable to move from being stuffed in the box.

When you turn 65 – face it – you may still feel 45 in your mind – but the REAL prejudice is against those of us who live long enough to be known as “the old folks, old people, our elderly, the over the hill gang, seniors (say isn’t a senior in high school or college someone to be looked up to and revered?)

I could write a book about it all, but just to let you know – my wits are about me! My memory is as sharp as ever. I am still the captain of my ship and God the Master of my mind. I really am still “too sexy for my shirt”, and my cane doubles as a weapon so that if anyone pulls any crap on me I can beat them to death with it – and I wouldn’t hesitate.

I don’t hold back and just “be nice” – IF someone deserves to be told off I will do it with wit and class – but I will do it. I don’t hold anything inside. I dress exactly the way I want to, and love the freedom.

When no one is looking (ha ha) I will do what I damn please and take any risk I opt to…why not? There isn’t too much I haven’t done in my life (a lot I wish I hadn’t done), and what the heck is the difference. It could kill me?

No one knows when they are through with being on this earth – at best my life is less than two decades, and so if you see me flying through the air with some young stud attached to my back, don’t be surprised!

I probably will be holding tight to my husband, whom I still adore, sitting behind him on his Harley, going a 100 miles an -hour down some back road!

Life doesn’t have to be over just because you have aged like a fine, fine wine! Or better yet in my case, an aged bottle of good whiskey! One that gives warmth to your innards, and a glow on your cheeks.

Keep your sense of humor. If you’ve lost it, find it and right away before you forget what you are looking for…..and smile!
